Roots of American Music continues its new Masters of American Music series—an ongoing concert and storytelling experience celebrating the artists who shaped the foundations of American music.

Held on the fourth Wednesday of each month, the series brings audiences into an intimate setting where music and storytelling come together, connecting listeners more deeply to the history behind the songs.

Following a packed and enthusiastic kickoff event, the series continues with a tribute to Ray Charles, featuring Evelyn Wright and Joe Hunter.

Ray Charles was one of the most groundbreaking musicians of the twentieth century, pioneering the sound of soul music by blending gospel, blues, and jazz. With timeless songs like “What’d I Say,” “Georgia on My Mind,” and “Hit the Road Jack,” his influence continues to shape American music today.

Vocalist Evelyn Wright and pianist Joe Hunter are two of Northeast Ohio’s most accomplished musicians. With deep roots in gospel, soul, jazz, and R&B traditions, they bring both technical mastery and emotional depth to the stage.

Together, they will bring Ray Charles’s music to life through performance, storytelling, and shared experience—continuing a series that invites audiences to listen, learn, and connect.
