Visible Voice Books Moving to New Ohio City Location on November 12, 2025

Expanded 6,000 sq. ft. store to be located at 4601 Lorain Ave.

Visible Voice Books will be moving to 4601 Lorain Ave. in Ohio City and will reopen in this new location on Wednesday, November 12, 2025. The last day of business at the current location at 2258 Professor Ave. in Tremont will be Sunday, September 14, 2025

Visible Voice’s new location has been completely renovated and designed for the bookstore’s exclusive use. This new first-floor location will also expand the bookstore’s footprint from 1,100 sq. ft. to 6,000 sq. ft.

The additional space will enable Visible Voice to:

  • Triple its book inventory/offerings of both new and used books

  • Add a café offering specialty coffee and espresso drinks, non-alcoholic beverages, pastries, snacks, small plates, fresh salads, and sandwiches

  • Add a full-service bar

  • Add a 150-capacity stage to host local and national music of all genres, as well as writers and speakers

  • Allow for a warmly lit, comfortable mezzanine area conducive to relaxing, working, studying, or diving into a book you just found on the expanded shelves while enjoying food and beverages

  • Offer 3 separate/conference rooms that can accommodate 6 to 20 people

The bookstore’s move into this new location will complete the development of what will be called “The Highlands” (a nod to a Bob Dylan song) that will consist of 2 buildings:

  • 4517 Lorain Ave.: Home to Guitar Riot, Ohio’s premier guitar store; The Guitar Conservatory, run by Michael Bay, a highly skilled guitar instructor with 35 years of experience; Jay Pawar Guitars, a luthier who has been in business for more than 25 years; and Free Hearts Yoga Studio

  • 4601 Lorain Ave.: The new home of Visible Voice consisting of the bookstore, café, and stage

Visible Voice’s new location was previously occupied by the Lorain Theater which operated from 1923 until approximately 1970. Since then, it has had a number of uses but was in extreme disrepair when it was purchased. Redevelopment efforts were led by architect Lucas Staib from AODK Architecture and Engelke Construction Solutions. In the course of redevelopment, extremely interesting architectural fixtures and art that had been hidden away for at least 50 to 70 years were discovered, and these historical details have been incorporated into the redevelopment effort

The decision to move out of Tremont was not easily made. “All of the Visible Voice employees love Tremont,” said Dave Ferrante, owner. “Two of us live in the neighborhood. In my opinion, Tremont has never lost its uniqueness or charm. In fact, it’s still one of the most interesting, fun, and beautiful neighborhoods in the city. I am glad I have been located here for so many years and I’m thankful for the support of the neighborhood.”

Visible Voice Books has been in Tremont since it first opened in 2007. Since then, it has occupied two locations in the neighborhood. “The opportunities that arose from the additional size and unique architectural details of the new location will allow us to greatly enhance our offerings and programming,” continued Ferrante. “It’s been something I’ve envisioned for years, and the new store will be something very special that I hope the entire city can enjoy. I’d also like to point out that the location is only 1.7 miles from Tremont. Hell, you can even walk it.”

“We are committed to continue providing a great, mindful, and curated sanctuary of knowledge, serendipitist discovery, and fun. That does not change no matter where we are located,” said Ferrante.
